| | | | In the beginning... well, we suppose it was fate. That, or some sort of man trap that was devised by Kim and her best friend Kirsten when they were kids and decided they would marry men that were also best friends, live around the corner and own snow blowers.
| Excepting that last detail, its all true. Kirsten brought Kim out on the town (Boulder) with a large group of us and Richard was immediately smitten. BUT, and this a big but, instead of doing what was his first impulse to impress girls, which is eating grass and rocks (hey it worked at 8 years old, right?), he danced with someone else. Yeah, the psychological angle... So it wasn't until later that we actually chatted at length and started dating. Which, let's be honest, is when the real psychological games begin, right? | | |

| | | So we were together for a good (actually, really really great) 5+ years of fun and laughter before we deemed each other worthy of one another. So, after a great deal of hemming and hawing, buying a house, memorizing one another's social security numbers and blood types, and opening a joint checking account, we got engaged.
And so, it was on a visit to Florence, looking down the Arno River and back at the Ponte Vecchio that Richard asked Kim to marry him. It almost happened prematurely as Richard was carrying the ring around in a little pouch in his pocket and had to deftly conceal it when going through the metal detector at the Uffizi Gallery. | | | Step one in any engagement process: ensure your intended can't escape. |
|
| | But it may have been a destination predestination as it was one of those trips that keeps surprising you at every turn. And that night in Florence was the cap to a little jaunt we had made down to Siena where we had accidentally timed it so that we were in town for the Pallio race and the whole town was turned out and buzzing. But Florence was just the prelude to the cap on the larger trip we've made together... |
|
| | | Assuming everything goes as planned, and Kim doesn't finally tire of Richard's relentless, horrific puns, by the time the reception rolls around and we see you all, we will have been hitched in New Zealand (top of the world, ma!).
We'll post some photos up here when we get back so folks can see, as well as pictures from the subsequent honeymoon camper van drive around the South Island. | | |
|
| | | Now is the time in wedding when we dance. And eat and drink and just generally cause mayhem and shake the flatirons loose!
You should be able to get all of the information on the reception party itinerary, accommodations options and directions to the major event hubs on this website, but if you should have any questions at all you know how to reach us. Don't forget to RSVP!
We can't wait to see you all and celebrate! |
